There are few moments in life that feel as sacred as the first 48 hours after your baby is born.
Time stands still… and somehow moves faster than it ever has.
A Fresh 48 session is a documentary-style photography session that takes place within the first 24–48 hours after birth, typically at the hospital or birth center. It captures your baby exactly as they are in those first fleeting hours.
And those hours? They are gone before you even realize it.
As a maternity, newborn, and family photographer serving Oakdale, Modesto, Ripon, Escalon, Lodi, and Stockton, I can tell you this with confidence:
These are the moments you will ache to remember.
Unlike a posed newborn session, a Fresh 48 is raw. Emotional. Honest.
There’s no studio lighting.
No pressure to “look put together” (This is where the magic lies!)
No elaborate props.
Instead, we document:
• The hospital bracelets
• The way your baby curls up tight, fresh from the womb
• The first time siblings meet their new baby
• The way dad looks at you like you just did something heroic
• The quiet in-between moments when you’re counting fingers and toes
It’s storytelling at its most powerful.
Truthfully, your baby changes overnight.
Their face fills out.
Their skin loses that brand-new look.
The way they scrunch their nose when they cry fades quickly.
By the time you’re home and adjusting, that brand new stage is already slipping away.
A Fresh 48 session freezes:
• The beginning of your motherhood story (again, or for the first time)
• The emotions you can’t put into words
• The sacredness of becoming a family
You may not remember the exact details of those first hours.
But you will have photographs that bring you right back.
You Don’t Have to Be “Ready”
One of the biggest hesitations I hear is:
“But I won’t feel put together.”
And that’s exactly the point.
Fresh 48 sessions are not about perfection. They are about presence.
You in a hospital gown.
Baby in a simple swaddle.
Soft window light.
Tears in your eyes.
Exhaustion and joy living side by side.
This is the real beginning.
And years from now, you won’t care about your hair.
You’ll care about the way you held them.
A Fresh 48 is perfect for:
• Moms who know how fast the newborn stage passes
• Families welcoming a long-awaited or prayed-for baby
• Parents who value connection over perfection
• Those who want documentary-style storytelling instead of stiff posing
If you’re already feeling emotional thinking about how quickly this season will fly by… this session is for you.
Fresh 48 sessions are best reserved during your second or early third trimester to ensure availability around your due date.
Because babies don’t follow calendars, I only take a limited number of Fresh 48 clients each month to allow flexibility when labor begins.
If you’re expecting and located in Oakdale, Modesto, Ripon, Escalon, Lodi, or Stockton, I would be honored to document these first sacred hours for you.
When you look back at your motherhood journey, the first 48 hours will feel like a blur.
But they are the beginning of everything.
The beginning of their story.
The beginning of this version of your family.
The beginning of a love that changes you forever.
And that deserves to be preserved.
